Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary on Friday awarded three squadrons of the Indian Air Force with a “Unit Citation” for their role in strengthening the Indian military presence in eastern Ladakh. last year following the military standoff with China in the region.

The units were awarded during the 89th Air Force Day celebrations at Hindon Air Base on the outskirts of the nation’s capital.
Indian and Chinese troops have been stranded in a border standoff in several parts of eastern Ladakh for nearly 17 months, although the two sides have disengaged in a number of sticking points.
The 47th Squadron, formed in 1959, is currently equipped with the improved MiG-29 aircraft. After the Balakot airstrikes in February 2019, the squadron was deployed for the air defense role.
“The squadron made numerous flights and maintained a constant watch to ensure that there were no misadventures from our adversaries… In May 2020, the squadron was deployed for air defense as well as air-to-ground operations in the northern sector, and conducted high-altitude operations, ”an official said.
The 116 Helicopter Unit, formed in August 1967, is equipped with the Advanced Light Helicopter (Mark IV) Rudra.
