Citation issued for Jenny Lind’s vegetation fire

Jenny Lind, CA – CAL Fire has determined what started a 1.4 acre fire last night in the 5500 block of Pleasant Oaks Drive in Calaveras County.

Spokeswoman Emily Kilgore said the initial call was sent shortly after 6 p.m. regarding the fire in the Jenny Lind community. She adds: “Investigators determined that the fire was caused by the use of equipment with a spark arrester problem. A citation has been issued to the user of the equipment and we remind everyone that all internal combustion engines, or gas powered equipment, must be fitted with a spark arrester when used in wilderness interface areas.

Kilgore had no further information regarding the specific type of equipment the named person was using. CAL Fire officials recommend extreme caution when operating equipment outdoors at this time of year. Today is the first official day of summer and triple-digit temperatures are possible by next weekend.
