Developments in synthesis and combustion technology

This reference is an accessible update on combustion synthesis and chemical technology for the synthesis of composite materials. Nine chapters provide an overview of the topic with recent references, giving the reader an informed perspective. The book begins with an introduction to the thermodynamic models used in combustion synthesis. The following chapters explain the application of combustion synthesis to manufacture different materials such as nanostructured non-ferrous alloys, ceramic powders, functional gradient materials, superhard boron carbide materials, memory alloys shapes, biomaterials, high entropy alloys and rare earth phosphates. The range of topics makes this book a useful guide for students, scientists and industry professionals in the field of chemical engineering, metallurgy and materials science.

About the editor

Mehmet Bugdayci is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at Yalova University, where he has worked since 2017. He received his BSc from Yildiz Technical University in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in 2007, and his MSc from Yildiz Technical University. Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2014. He obtained his PhD in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2017. From 2007 to 2009 he worked at PORAS AS as an engineer in Istanbul. From 2009 to 2010, he worked as a manager at MORCELIK AS in Konya. Between 2010 and 2017 he worked as a research assistant at ITU, Metallurgical and Materials Eng. Dept. His research interests cover the synthesis of advanced ceramics, extractive metallurgy, carbothermic and metallothermic reduction of oxides, ferrous metallurgy, batteries, waste recycling and sustainable metallurgy.

Levent Oncel has been working as an assistant professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Sinop University since 2018. He obtained his BSc, MSc and PhD degrees from Istanbul Technical University in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in 2006, 2009 and 2017 , respectively. Between 2007 and 2009, he worked as an R&D engineer in the medical industry (Alvimedica Medical Products, Istanbul/Turkey). Between 2009 and 2010, he provided advice to medical device companies with his partner company. Between 2010 and 2017, he worked as an R&D manager in the medical industry (Mia Medikal, Istanbul/Turkey). During this period, he provided advice to Occlutech Medical Products (Istanbul/Turkey), Meta Medikal (Ankara/Turkey) and Simeks Medical Products (Istanbul/Turkey) as a subcontractor of Mia Medikal. His research interests include shape memory alloys, medical devices, biomaterials, extractive metallurgy and industrial waste recycling.
